As I was walking to my car the other morning, I couldn't help but notice a woman's purse sitting on the front seat of the car parked next to mine. Her purse was in plain view and her wallet was even hanging out.
To be fair, the car was locked. However, I still couldn't help but think how inconsiderate it was of her to leave her purse unattended and visible like that.
"Now some poor kid is going to have to get a brick, smash the window, risking injury to himself, and potentially get caught because of the noise," I thought. "It would be a lot easier and cheaper for everyone involved if the purse owner would just leave the car unlocked - no window repair bills, no glass to clean up and, for the kid, potentially no juvenile record."
The woman may have thought her purse was safe. After all, she was parked in a nice part of a more well-to-do suburb, with people walking around. What were the odds that someone would come along and break her window?
While we like to think that we will never be the target of a crime, especially organized crime, the reality is: you never know. Carelessness can turn perfectly nice and trusting people into victims.

But it is rare that a business starts a website project with much thought to the fact that the final product needs to be secure.
Sure, your server is in a locked room or a secure data center, you've implemented SSL, and you require passwords to do anything... But guess what? This is hardly enough to deter even the youngest of today's new generation of hackers (AKA "script kiddies"). You must be aware that your business' website-no matter how small-is available to anyone in the world 24/7 and cyber crime is a billion dollar business.
Web application vulnerabilities that may put your website at risk include:
