The last time you searched online for a restaurant or other service, you probably came across sites like Yelp or a Google Place Page with information about the establishment. As you clicked through several different businesses, if you are like most people, you probably were more likely to try the business that had positive reviews posted.
In research conducted by kudzu.com, 86% of consumers read reviews online before buying a product or visiting a business. Even more staggering is the fact that 90% of the people who read the reviews believe and trust the reviews. So, as you have gathered by now, having reviews posted by your customers will be very helpful to you!
How do you go about getting a glowing review from a happy client? Well, the best way is to ASK! Some people have told me that they are not comfortable with asking a customer to post a review, and they are also not sure how to bring up the subject with their customers.
Depending on what your business is, there are a few different ways you can discuss the idea of an online review with your customers. The first way is at the time of the transaction. If you are in a brick and mortar store, for example, if they've had a very good experience and smooth transaction that they are thanking you for, this is a good time to thank them and say that they can let others know about your store by posting a review on Yelp. Another way you can do this in a face-to-face transaction is by including a suggestion to review you on Yelp on your business card, and then be sure to hand them the card as they are leaving.
